A serene, contemplative image symbolizing patience and growth. A single green seedling or sprout emerging from rich, dark soil, bathed in soft warm light filtering through — evoking quiet development, trust, and the slow unfolding of something meaningful. Sophisticated, minimal, editorial feel with a shallow depth of field.

Let Patience Have Its Perfect Work

In Psalm 31:2, David says, “…rescue me quickly.” There have certainly been times in my life that I’ve felt this way; yet, in this season of unemployment while I do wanted to be rescued, I also have a strong desire for this season have it’s good and perfect work in me. I don’t want to be prematurely plucked from development, from the incubator that is this season – like a womb (sidebar: I’ve always thought pregnancy / birthing analogies for a believer’s faith journey were a little weird (and overused), but they really are fitting).

Babies need to conditions of the womb to fully develop their organs and entire being. The closer to the full-term of nine months they are, the better. There’s a set time for pregnancy. Likewise, God has set and ordained a time for me to be in this unemployment season so that I have the capacity to handle what’s next. I’m not designed to stay in development, just like a baby isn’t designed for the womb but for the purpose of birth. I’m designed for what comes next. I’m being prepared for what comes next.

Just like the baby’s job isn’t to create or control the conditions of the womb, my job isn’t the to create or control the conditions of the season. It’s to develop in it. The womb is designed to have everything a baby needs in it. It’s the mother’s role to nurture those conditions by how she nourishes and takes care of her body to the best of her ability. Likewise, God has designed this season to have all that I need in it to sustain and develop me. It’s His job to nurture the conditions of the season to create the atmosphere that can produce in me what He’s intended for this season to produce. I can’t control the season. I have to surrender to it and receive from it all that God has designed for me to receive. The womb isn’t designed to destroy the baby, but to prepare it. Same with this season – it’s not designed to destroy me but to prepare me.

Psalm 31:14-15 – But, I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.

Psalm 31:24 – So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord!
